International Day of People with Disabilities

Today the Public Appointments Service is marking International Day of People With Disabilities (IDPWD). Since 1992, IDPWD has been observed every December 3rd by a range of organisations around the world.

The theme this year is ‘The Future is Accessible’ and envisions a time when all environmental and social barriers for people with disabilities are identified and everyone works together to overcome them.

In Ireland, this is the second year of the #PurpleLights campaign which sees local and national Government buildings, major companies, civic and educational institutions all turning purple to celebrate IDPWD.

You too can show your support by wearing something purple, like a tie, blouse or socks, or by using the hashtags #IDPwD19 #PurpleLights19 across social media.

At the Public Appointments Service we aim to make our services, building and website as accessible as possible and welcome people of all abilities to use our services. Read more about our commitment to accessibility here.

Happy International Day of People With Disabilities 2019 everyone!
