It also has academic links to Trinity College, Dublin, and Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) – specialising in the training and professional development of staff in areas such as nursing, health and social care professionals, amongst many others.

The hospital has a large education centre with two lecture theatres, two tutorial rooms, study rooms and a dedicated Clinical Skills Area with a wide variety of simulation manikins and task trainers covering most specialty clinical skills. There is a large library with availability of 3D printing and a Makers’ Lab to encourage innovation in education and training.
